Beginning of Spanish Quilt Project
Beginning this week 1/14/19-1/18/19 all second grade classes will begin their Spanish Quilt project. This project is inspired by a project that has been completed with Mrs. Mance's (Gloria) students in the past. We both combined our ideas into this project and how we would incorporated Spanish! We are both looking forward to our first Spanish Quilt Project!
Our goal is to create a quilt with a combination of the Spanish and English Alphabet/Vocabulary as we have been learning in our Spanish classes. Each student will receive a piece of cloth shape as a square. This piece of fabric is very important because each student will be responsible to designed the square with their assigned letter. All 30 squares will then be sewed by Mrs. Mance and myself to make a beautiful Quilt that represents each second grade class.
Student Design example: Sally is assigned letter A. She is to write both capital and lower case A along with a Spanish word that begins with that letter (written above). The student will also select and English word that begins with their assigned letter (written below). Sally chose to select the words Abeja as her Spanish word and Apple as her English word. She can now draw two small images that represents their selected words. After she can designed her square however she wishes. (Square sample image with be upload to our class website).
Materials that will be provided by teacher: a total of 30: 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 fabric square (one for each student) Fabric Markers (during class time only)
Student assignment: 1.) Draft Idea on paper first to be approved by teacher 2.) Student can now apply their design on to their 9 1/2 x 9 1/2 fabric square with their assigned letter in pencil first. 3.) Student can now re-trace design with fabric markers.
Please make sure students draw and designed 1/2 inches away from all 4 sides. This is where the seam lines are. Students work would be cover when sewed!
